Oldies but Goodies- Rasputina

I first heard of Rasputina because my favorite band in college was Matson Jones, a Fort Collins- based band consisting of two cellos, a bass violin, and drums (Matson Jones is STILL one of my favorite bands and I am incredibly sad that they broke up. Check them out for some amazing music.) Everytime I mentioned to someone that this band had two cellos their first question was "have you heard Rasputina?" Until then, no, I hadn't. I didn't really listen to that kind of music but I promised I would listen to it at some point. It took me quite a while to keep my promise, but once I did, I was a bit hooked.

It's a little difficult to pick a favorite song or even a favorite album because their sound never wavers much between all of their albums. I do love their strange stories, especially the ones that are spoken as if telling a bedtime story. They are always the most bizarre stories and many of them are about history, such as the Donner Party, human experiments by the Nazis, and yellow fever.

Rasputina is a band that people tend to either love or hate because their sound is so unusual. It is very modern yet calls upon the sound from times before, such as medieval instruments or a really old folky sound. There is definitely no other band like them.
