When I think of California rock I think of it as being a little dirty, a little gritty, but typically very danceable. That is exactly what Admiral Radley is. The band, named after a stranger in a bar who would only go by that name, is a perfect example of what I view California rock to be. The album is even called "I Heart California" (which, by the way, is their best song). This band is a mixture of 90s feeling rock and modern dance-like rock, which makes the songs a bit hit or miss. That is not to say that "I Heart California" is not a good album though. The album is full of good songs and I Heart California is actually one of my favorite songs of the moment. This is definitely a band I will be keeping my eyes on.
The best part of this band is the music itself. The main singer does not have what I consider a very good voice, and though the female singer has a pretty good one, she is not heard enough- and her voice is really nothing very special. What really makes this band stand apart are the actual songs. The standout songs of the album to me are I Heart California, Sunburn Kids, and Red Curbs. I'm All Fucked On Beer is also a fun song that would be great for any house party.
